I’ve been getting a lot of questions lately about why I want to continue being Madison’s mayor. In light of Scott Walker’s attacks on our budget I guess I can understand why people would ask.

But the truth is I want to do this job more than ever. And in part that’s true precisely because of the Governor and the community response to his regressive policies.

It's a big hit!  I've been traveling the city all weekend and posting updates to my Facebook page....and we're having a blast.  Please follow me through my Facebook page to get the latest in these last 34 hours and don't forget to vote tomorrow!

Chum

With all the profound events of the last month (and let's hear it for District Attorney Ismael Ozanne and Dane County Judge Marianne Sumi!) I thought I'd take a moment to comment on something really trivial for a change: campaign chum.

The 14 Senate Democrats return to Madison today for a well-earned round of thank yous for what they’ve accomplished.

By denying majority Republicans a quorum they bought us time. We’ve used that time well. The hundreds of thousands who came to the Square for peaceful protests have focused national and even international attention on the importance of organized labor. It has united progressives like never before. And it has resulted in other states with similarly extreme Republican governors backing off from the same path.

I got a birthday card from my mom & dad yesterday (I turn 52 on Thursday). My mom sent me two checks, one for me and one for the campaign. The check for the campaign was for twice as much as the check for me. Way to go, mom!

Please vote today, and I'd really appreciate it if you would urge your family and friends to vote as well. And tonight, join us at Marigold Kitchen starting at 8pm. We can share a drink and some snacks and watch the returns together.
